What is IsMyBillWrong?

IsMyBillWrong is an AI service that audits medical bills for errors and generates dispute letters for a flat fee. You upload a hospital bill, an AI checks each line against federal billing rules and your Explanation of Benefits, and you get a plain-English report — plus dispute letters prepared in your own name if you want to push back.

Why we built it

IsMyBillWrong started with one real bill. Our founder — a systems architect with an MBA — received an emergency-room bill that listed a pair of lab codes, CPT 80048 (a basic metabolic panel) and CPT 80076 (a hepatic function panel), billed as two separate charges. Under Medicare’s National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edit rules, that code pair is one federal coding authorities say should be bundled rather than billed separately.

Spotting it took weeks of work: reading the itemized statement, learning how NCCI edits behave, and citing Florida’s itemized-statement law (Fla. Stat. § 395.3011) to get a line-by-line bill. When the account was referred to collections, he used the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) debt-validation process to dispute it in writing. The charge was corrected and the collections referral was reversed.

The lesson was simple: catching a billing error today takes fluency in CPT coding, NCCI edits, insurer rules, and state billing statutes — expertise almost no patient has, and few can spare weeks to build. An AI agent can do the same review in minutes, for anyone. That is the whole idea.
